This page is for discussing the contents of Music Scene.
When did Chris Gibson hijack this page for self-promotion? Isn't this meant to be an encyclopedia? If you have third party opinions (ie. press quotes) link to them, otherwise include the MySpace details and people make their own mind up. nickholloway
Chris Gibson got the attention of Nick Holloway. Awesome! God helps those who helps themselves...
Who is this Nick Holloway and why does he think his opinons matter?
Souldn't the Words:Chris Gibosn be removed? Seems to undermine the point of a wiki.
Hey Dorzey - thanks for your comment. Removal of the 'Words: Chris Gibson' was my point exactly, although perhaps I was more bitchy than clear. Apologies if so. My intention was to raise a question mark over the inclusion of just such a 'byline', which implies the author is treating his work more like a newspaper review than a wiki entry, which in turn made me wonder about it's impartiality. Indeed, a quick bit of research reveals that Chris is a member of the band he describes as "awesomely inventive" (The Glasgow Coma Scale), making the entry tantamount to spam.
A better format for the history of the local music scene might be borrowed from Martin C. Strong's encyclopedic Essential Rock Discography, or Pete Frame's Rock Family Tree.
Would be great to meet and discuss further if you're ever around FACT's gallery 1.
All the best,
Hmm, I think including people's opinions can be good. The Liverpool Wiki doesn't have to have the same standards as wikipedia. There's this page that can offer some guidelines - Wiki Ethics and notably: "Respect the opinions of others. On the other hand, make it clear whether you are expressing a fact or an opinion." Sounds fair to me! -SteveLambert
Good point. I'm thinking very wikipedia, aren't I? I suppose it raises the question of whether wiki-editing should be bound by the idea of
journalistic objectivity. Perhaps the Music_Scene page should be more like a tradition history, whereas PR should be saved for the Events_Board. Alternatively, Music_Scene could be reduced to a simple list, with room for more opiniony stuff / the band (if current) introducing themselves on each individual band page. Otherwise Music_Scene will inevitably get really cluttered. -nickholloway
